Envisioned as a trilogy, my video montage comprises fragmented elements of landscapes, inanimate objects and animated characters that refuse to act as expected. The narrative responds to legends, politics, and timeless dilemmas. While the stories are quite linear, they are staged in high context, referencing local history and popular culture. Sound and imagery are sourced from public domain, my family album, as well as photo/video footage shot in Grünau im Almtal, OÖ, the Mauricie region of Quebec and in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
In Act 1, two butterflies are manipulated by an invisible puppet master, and a boat rises up into the sky with no one pulling at the oars. One of the butterflies throws the strings into chaos, and the boat lands in the lake that is said to have broken free of the mountain and flooded villages whose inhabitants disobeyed.
In Act 2, one of two enchanted mountains awakes. The liberated young woman walks away from millennia in a petrified state, and paddles off across the waters. According to legend, the Traunstein and adjacent Schlafende Griechin were once human subjects banished by the court of King Dachstein. The lake was released by the mountain as punishment for the population’s insubordination.
Act 3 starts with the mountain’s heart beating fast, and the king’s golden crowns turning into cow paddies, borrowed from another legend. The mountain first reacts angrily, then closes his eyes to the upheaval, the ice melts, the lake bursts, streets turn into rivers, and the cows take the blame (or not).

Als Trilogie konzipiert, umfasst meine Videomontage fragmentierte Elemente von Landschaften, unbelebten Objekten und animierten Charakteren, die sich weigern, wie erwartet zu handeln. Die Erzählung reagiert auf Legenden, Politik und zeitlose Dilemmata. Obwohl die Geschichten eher linear sind, werden sie regional inszeniert und beziehen sich auf lokale Geschichte und Populärkultur. Ton- und Bildmaterial stammen aus dem öffentlichen Bereich und aus meinem Familienalbum. Ebenso wurde Foto-/Videomaterial verwendet, das in Grünau im Almtal, OÖ, der Region Mauricie in Quebec und in Hamilton, Ontario, Kanada, aufgenommen wurde.
